Terrarium are miniature worlds to grow plant ecosystems. They are usually grown in transparent containers such as glass jars or containers and one key feature of terrariums is that they require lower maintenance than your regular potted plant.
Slow-growing plants are recommended for terrariums. For our workshops, we provide you with Fittonia plants, also known as nerve plants due to the beautiful pink or white vein patterns on their leaves.
Enclosed terrariums require water every month; 8 full sprays / 5-6 tablespoons per watering. Semi-enclosed terrariums such as the Egg terrarium can be watered every 2 weeks. Ensure that the terrarium is aired for 3 days before each watering session in order to allow the stale water within the terrarium to evaporate. This helps to prevent the growth of mould.
Yes! You will be able to bring back the terrarium that you built with your own two hands straight after the workshop. Remember to water it!
Our facilitators would start by explaining the basic concepts regarding terrariums, before moving onto the hands-on terrarium-building activity. The session would conclude with our facilitators sharing some maintenance tips, and a photo-taking session with everyone holding their completed terrariums.
There are generally two types of terrariums – enclosed and open terrariums. At EPIC Workshops, we offer a variety of glass containers to choose from, including our popular Classic closed terrariums and our Angled open terarriums.
We provide coloured sand, a variety of stones, as well as figurines for $1 and up. Otherwise, you can choose to add your own decorations and figurines into your terrarium as well.
Open terrariums require water every 2 days; 5 full sprays / 2-3 tablespoons per watering.
Keep your terrarium away from heat sources, such as beside an oven or computer. Indirect sunlight or indoor lighting is recommended for your terrarium. Do not place your terrarium in direct sunlight as your terrarium functions like a greenhouse – heat is easily trapped within the glass container, which may cook your plants.
The required materials include a glass jar or container, gravel, dried moss, soil, and most importantly a suitable plant! You would also need some tools to help you with the planting. All these materials are provided for you at our terrarium workshops, along with coloured sand, stones and figurines for decoration.

Airplant Terrarium Workshops / Classes FAQ

Air Plant Terrarium Workshop in Singapore

Air plants are a type of succulents that can grow in low light conditions, making them perfect for people who have little time to take care of their plants. They’re also ideal for those with black thumbs because they are among the most forgiving houseplants around.

Air plants need very little water and don’t require soil or any other potting medium. The only thing you’ll need is a clean container filled with pebbles, stones, or decorative objects to provide support for your air plant’s roots. If you have access to natural light, it will help your air plant grow faster and more effectively but isn’t necessary.

Why air plants are the perfect plant for your terrarium

There are many reasons why air plants are the perfect plant for a terrarium. First of all, they don’t need soil to grow in, so they’re ideal for people who want a low-maintenance plant that can thrive on their own without any help. They also come in different varieties that have different colors and leaves shapes, so you can find one right for your decor theme. These plants also require just a little bit of water every 2-3 weeks to stay healthy and vibrant, which is something most people don’t mind doing when it’s only small amounts of time and effort required.

If you’ve been eyeing air plants but are intimidated about caring for them, come join the Air Plant Terrarium Workshop in Singapore to learn more. During this workshop, you’ll be shown how to take care of these plants so they grow healthy and happy. Furthermore, there will also be an option to create your own terrarium from scratch using air plants and other materials. You’ll even learn more about the different types of air plants that are best suited for terrariums.

How to care for air plants in your home and what type of environment they need

Air plants are succulent plants that are characterized by their lack of flowers, leaves, or sap. This means that they do not require any soil to grow. They are very low-maintenance plants that only need a little water now and then. To care for them at home follow these tips:

Add mulch around your Air Plant Terrariums to help prevent the buildup of water in one area.

Use a saucer filled with rocks or pebbles underneath the pot for drainage. The saucer should be large enough to catch all the runoff water from the pot or tray under it. Fill the saucer with just enough water so it does not evaporate quickly, but also so it is not deep enough to cause the plant to sit in water.

Every couple of weeks, add a small amount of water to your Air Plant Terrariums until it covers their soil. Let it sit for about an hour and then drain the excess water from the saucer or tray under them. Do not let enough water accumulate in the saucer that it starts coming out of the pot.

If it is difficult to remove excess water from your Air Plant Terrariums, use a turkey baster or similar tool to suck up the water and then pour it back into the pot once you have reached the level that is right for your plant.
